Cleaning is an essential part of boating. Always be sure to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on any cleaning products.
- West Marine Heavy Duty Boat Soap-wash exterior of boat and marine vinyl cushions.
- Starbrite Deck Cleaner-use this on light stains or light bird droppings.
- Magic Erasers-works great on scuff marks.
- T-9-lubricate and remove rust on standing rigging. Wipe really well to dry and polish.
- Collinite No 850-I use this on the stainless steel, stanchions, shackles. I will go back over with wet microfiber to remove excess collinite, then dry.
- StarbriteRust Remover-this works great on starboard and fiberglass. Remove excess really well.
- Starbrite Bird and Spider Stain Remover- use on tough bird stains especially the purple and red stains.
PRO TIPS
- I cut the green scotch pads into strips, to use on the stainless steel. You can use the morning dew or wet the pad and lightly scrub to help remove rust before it starts.
- The dish brush I use to clean the rain gutter and hand scrub bird stains on the deck.
- Stainless steel polish works best with a clean boat.
- With any of the rust removers or stainless steel polish you will want to rinse and buff really well or you will get more return rust..
- Mold tips: use bleach as a last resort. Live mold spores will feed on bleach. My favorite product is Concrobium. If you have tough, thick mold this product works best. For light mold I use a spray bottle with 1 quart of hot water and 1 TBSP white vinegar.
- Whether you have a glass dodger or a Isinglass a good squeegee works best for a streak free finish.
- Any questions please email or call me, I’d be glad to share my cleaning pointers.
